How do I request an interpreter?
Call our office at 417-889-8377 or you can use our on-line request feature. All requests must be in writing.
How far in advance do I need to request an interpreter?
The sooner the better. As a general guide, you should try to request an interpreter at least 2 weeks in advance. Many of our customers request an interpreter as soon as they schedule a meeting, appointment, or event. This allows us ample time to find the most qualified interpreter for your assignment.
What if I need an interpreter at the last minute?
Associates in Sign Language will attempt to fill every request we receive. Unfortunately, there is a limited supply of certified interpreters so there will be times we may not be able to fill a last minute or short notice request.
Who pays for the interpreting services?
The ADA states that all public and private agencies that provide services to the public, and all employers with 15 or more employees, must be accessible. This means if your business is accessible to customers without disabilities, it must be accessible to customers with disabilities and would be responsible for payment for the interpreting services.
What if I have an emergency?
You can contact Associates in Sign Language 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 417-889-8377. Emergencies generally involve assignments at a hospital ER or police department.
Why am I charged for an assignment that has been canceled with less than 24 hours notice?
At Associates in Sign Language we follow the industry standard of a 24 hour cancellation policy. Due to the imbalance of supply and demand for certified interpreters, if an interpreter accepts your assignment, they have usually turned down other assignments. If your assignment cancels with less than 24 hours notice, the interpreter will have missed the opportunity to accept other work.
How can I avoid paying for last minute cancellations?
Be proactive! Contact your client directly 48 hours in advance to verify they are coming to their appointment. If they are not coming, or have re-scheduled, let Associates in Sign Language know immediately to cancel the appointment prior to 24 hours. When your office receives a cancellation or reschedule request from your client that uses sign language services, call or email our office to cancel immediately.
Why is there a 2 hour minimum for scheduling interpreters?
Clients typically project an appointment will take 20-30 minutes; however, after checking into a clinic, sitting in the waiting room, visiting with the physician, and checking out, most appointments average around 85 minutes. An appointment you may envision taking a short time is very often in reality a much bigger commitment than anticipated.
